The Major League Baseball club Atlanta Braves play in the National League's Eastern Division. Since 1997 the Braves home games have been played at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. The Braves nickname originates from 1912 and is the word for Native American warrior. They are the only Atlanta area team that isn't named after a bird (Hawks, Falcons and former Thrashers).

The Braves from 1991 through 2005 were one of Major League Baseball's most successful franchises. During that time period they won 14 consecutive division titles, which was unprecedented. From 1991-1993 the Braves were winners of the NL West and from 1995-2000 they won the NL East. In 2010, they were the Wild Card winner of the National League. During the 1990s, Atlanta made five World Series appearances. In 1995 they won the title. The franchise since 1876, when they made their National League debut, have won three World Series titles, nine National League pennants and sixteen divisional titles. Their three World Series titles came while playing in three different cities, which is a major league record. The Boston Braves won in 1914, the Milwaukee Braves in 1957 and the Atlanta Braves in 1995.

The Braves and Chicago Cubs are the only two National League charter franchises remaining. The club was formed in 1871 in Boston Massachusetts as Boston Red Stockings which was changed to Boston Braves in 1912. The team in 1953 relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then in 1966 moved to Atlanta. In 1974, Hank Aaron broke the home run career record of Babe Ruth's while playing for the Atlanta Braves. In 2007 Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants broke his record.
