The Major League Baseball team Cleveland Indians are based out of Cleveland, Ohio and play in the American League's Central Division. Since 1994 the Indians have played their home games at Progressive Field (which was previously known as Jacobs Field). The spring training facility for the Indians is located in Goodyear, Arizona. The Indians were established in 1901 as a franchise of Major League Baseball. Cleveland has won the World Series twice: in 1920 and again in 1948. Their 62 year drought since winning their last World Series title is the longest of all American League teams and second in Major League Baseball to the Chicago Cubs.

Their Indians nickname was chosen by the media after the 1914 season, following the lead of the Boston Braves (currently the Atlanta Braves). The team is also called “the Tribe” or “Wahoos” (which is a reference to Chief Wahoo, their mascot appearing on team logos).

The team was first known as the Lake Shores in 1900 while the American League was still a minor league. In 1901, they became one of the eight charter franchises of the American League. The team was originally name the Cleveland Blues and played at League Park. In 1946, the club moved to Cleveland Municipal Stadium. The Cleveland Indians lead their division with seven American League Central titles.
