The Major League Baseball club Houston Astros play in the National League's Central Division and are based out of Houston, Texas. Their home games have been played at Minute Maid Park since 2000. Minute Maid owner Jim Crane is the Astros owner.

The Astros were originally formed in 1962 and called the Houston Colt 45s. Three years later they changed their name when the team moved into the first domed sports stadium in the world, the famous Astrodome, which references the central role Houston has played in the astronaut program of the U.S.

The Astros are Major League Baseball's oldest team not to have won a World Series title while still in their same city. They suffered playoff losses that were heart-breaking in 1986, 1981 and 1981 and then appeared in the playoffs again during the late 1990s as well as early 2000s. In 2005, the Houston Astros finally made it into the World Series, for the first and only World Series appearance to date, led by their big three pitchers Roy Oswalt, Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte. The Astros lost to the Chicago White Sox in a four game sweep.
