The Major League Baseball team Philadelphia Phillies are based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and play in the National League's Eastern Division. The team is the oldest continuous, one-city, one-name franchise in professional American sports. The Phillies were established in 1883 in Philadelphia. They have played their home games at Citizens Bank Park, located in South Philadelphia, since 2004. The spring training facilities of the team are in Clearwater, Florida.

The Phillies won the World Series title in 1980, defeating the Kansas City Royals, and again in 2008 when they beat the Tamp Bay Rays. The Phillies have also won seven pennants in the National League, with their first coming in 1915. Philadelphia has also struggled for long periods of time. The Phillies have lost more games, due to their long history and periods of adversity, than any other American professional sports team.

The Phillies and New York Mets share a heated rivalry, which has been refueled by the recent Wild card and division races that the two teams have been embroiled in. The Philadelphia Phillies have won four National League Division championships in a row (2007-2010). They defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in 5 games to win the 2008 World Series and lost to the New York Yankees in 6 games in the 2009 World Series.
